What is included in the breast cancer risk assessment package?

Mr Kelvin Chong will conduct a thorough assessment of your family's cancer history, reproductive history, as well as record your height and weight.

This assessment can be done either through an in-person consultation or via a online e-Consultation appointment.

Additionally, a mammogram will be required to measure your breast density using advanced software. Alternatively, if you have recently undergone a mammogram elsewhere, it can be transferred for this purpose.

The ‘Tyrer-Cuzick Breast Cancer Risk Calculator’ is used by Mr Chong, which is one of the most advanced evidence-based algorithms to date.

How is breast cancer risk determined?

Extensive research conducted over the years has allowed breast clinicians to accurately measure the risk of breast cancer.

Breast cancer can arise from various causes, and in many instances, it is the cumulative impact of multiple factors that contributes to its development later in life.

These factors encompass:

  • family/hereditary predisposition
  • breast density
  • lifestyle factors such as body mass index (BMI)
  • reproductive history

What happens after the assessment?

For patients seeking enhanced accuracy in their risk assessment, Mr Kelvin Chong can facilitate an optional, user-friendly at-home DNA saliva test at an additional cost. This test examines Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the DNA, which can potentially indicate an increased risk of breast cancer.

It is important to note that an SNP test differs slightly from detecting single gene mutations. The results from this test can be utilised to further enhance the precision of the breast cancer risk calculator, but its inclusion is purely optional.

How much does the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment cost?

The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment costs £95 per consultation (includes obtaining mammogram images/results).

Each consultation lasts 30 minutes, and is performed online via the e-Consultation service..
