The doctor mentioned that... "Women in general have digestive issues"... He should really be upskilling or looking to investigate why this is the case, rather than explaining it as a given issue. It's quite out dated and archaic in it's approach to patient management.

It is true that digestive issues are more common in women and I often tell this to patients as reassurance that their symptoms do not suggest a serious illness. I am sorry that you have misinterpreted my comments, but I would never suggest that 'women in general have digestive issues'. We discussed and agreed a management plan to help with your symptoms and I am sorry that you were not happy with this approach. This doctor visited me in 7 minutes, and looked to be in a rush from the moment I entered his office. He did not ask about previous surgery (which was relevant in my case), and suggested a colonoscopy without anything other than a few questions regarding my symptoms.

As we discussed, although my consultation slots are nominally 20 minutes, and this is typically the time I spend, I always ensure my patients are given the time they need even if this requires a longer appointment. Having carefully reviewed your notes, I am confident that we covered all the relevant clinical information, including past medical problems and that I also gave you the correct advice. I do hope I was able to reassure you of this in our telephone call. Once again, I am sorry that you were not happy with your appointment.
