At this consultation you have your treatment options carefully explained to you, and you will also be able to ask any questions you may have. If you are a nervous or anxious patient, it is a good idea to let our team know before your treatment, as we may be able to make special arrangements to make your treatment even more comfortable. This may include the administration of an anti-anxiety medication immediately before your treatment commences, or alternatively we can arrange for a specialist anaesthetist to attend and give intravenous sedation. Root canal treatment begins with an X-ray scan, and sometimes a CT scan, to assess what work needs to be done. Next, the tooth and surrounding area is numbed with a local anaesthetic.
