Professional statement

Mr Adam Jones is a dedicated and renowned consultant urologist practising at his private clinics in Reading. He specialises in prostate cancer and biopsies, PSA (prostate specific antigen), kidney cancer, HoLEP, and robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Currently, Mr Jones practices at Berkshire Independent Hospital and Forbury Clinic.

Having qualified from Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1991 with its highest undergraduate award – The Broderip Scholarship. Mr Jones subsequently continued with his surgical training at Whipps Cross, before later continuing at Chase Farm Hospital. Mr Jones completed his specialist registrar rotation in urology in the Oxford region. His research on blood supply to bladder cancers and disruptions mechanisms during his training years resulted in Mr Jones being awarded the esteemed 1-year Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

One of Mr Jones' claims to fame is his pioneering efforts to bring robotic surgery to Reading. With this innovative technology, Mr Jones has performed over 500 radical prostatectomies, as well as bringing the Da Vinci robot to Reading by leading the "Robbie the Robot Appeal" in 2008. His work to bring Robbie the Robot to Reading and his commitment to advancing robotic surgery in urology awarded him the Pride of Reading Healthcare Worker of the Year in 2012.

In addition, he has worked with two fellow highly-regarded surgeons to implement the prostate brachytherapy service in Reading, making it one of the busiest "real time" centres in Europe. The centre has treated more than 1,000 patients with the 4D real-time technique, maximising clinical efficacy and minimising side effects.

Mr Jones has been quoted saying about his medical centre, "Working in a unit with expertise in both brachytherapy and robotic surgery is uncommon in the UK and means our patients really do get a genuine choice of treatments for their prostate problems”.

Since 2007, Mr Jones has also supported Kisiizi Hospital, a rural hospital in South-West Uganda, with annual trips to help train their local surgeons and undertake a TURP camp. Usually, about 35 patients are treated in the week.
