Mr Babu Naidu has been an expert cardiothoracic surgeon for over 14 years, with a specific interest in pectus excavatum surgery, and lung volume reduction therapies for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), endobronchial therapies such as valves and coils, and minimally invasive curative surgeries for cancers in the lung.
Mr Naidu is currently practicing at The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham. He completed his masters in medical science in trauma surgery at the University of Birmingham in 1997, was named a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998, and went on to earn his MD in 2004 at King’s College, London. To further his studies in the UK, Mr Naidu undertook basic science research in lung injury at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
In addition to being a medical professional, Mr Naidu is also an ardent academic who takes great pride in being a senior lecturer of medicine at the University of Birmingham. He has published 100s of peer-reviewed articles in several medical journals, has contributed to multiple medical textbooks, and continues to partake in clinical research, leading a team of 10 scientists and medics at the University Hospital Birmingham. This research focuses on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), and novel surgical treatment for emphysema. He is the co-editor of the international guidelines for enhanced recovery after lung surgery which aims to ensure that patients get the best possible outcome after their surgery.
