Professor Charles Knight is an esteemed consultant cardiologist and director of the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Unit at Barts London NHS Trust, the largest cardiac unit in the UK. Professor Knight's research interests include renal and cardiac disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and acute coronary syndromes. He is widely published, with over 100 scientific papers to his name. In 1994, he assisted in the world's first septal ablation procedure, and has been actively involved since then in developing the procedure, a non-surgical treatment for heart muscle disease. Professor Knight sits on the Cardiology Specialist Advisory Committee for the Royal College of Physicians, and was past Honorary Secretary of the British Cardiovascular Society. He has great interest in research and education, as past Chair of the London Cardiology Speciality Training Committee, and regular appointments to lecture both nationally and internationally.
