Professional statement

Dr Christos Kouimtsidis is an interdisciplinary expert in substance misuse and addiction. He treats a wide range of patients, young and elderly, struggling with mental health conditions, gambling addiction, alcoholic addiction, opiod addiction, as well as complex cases involving both addiction and mental health problems. From his practice at the London Psychiatry Centre he offers one of the most innovate programmes for alcoholic addiction in the UK.

Having qualified in Medicine in Greece (1990), Dr Kouimtsidis moved to London to pursue further training in psychiatry, including an MSc in Mental Health. By 1997 he was a lecturer at St. George’s University of London. In 2003 Dr Kouimtsidis began his PhD at St George's, London, which was completed at King’s College, London in 2009, focussing on psychological processes in addictions. In 2016 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

As a consultant psychiatrist Dr Kouimtsidis worked in the NHS in Hertfordshire as well as Surrey and Borders, and currently works privately at the London Psychiatry Centre.

Dr Kouimtsidis’s work is widely published and in 2007 he co-authored Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in the treatment of addiciton: A treatment planner for Clinicians. He is also the recipient of a number of awards including the 2016 CARE Leader Award, the HSJ2015 Award for Clinical Research Impact, and the 2009 Governor’s Award from Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foudnation Trust. These awards are a recognition of the quality of care he delivers, his commitment to applying the latest evidence to current practice, and for his innovations in combining multiple interventions to treat addiction.
