Professional statement
Ms Deepa Bose is a renowned consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist focus on trauma and limb reconstruction, treating exclusively adult patients, and practising privately at The Harborne Hospital.
Her expertise includes managing acute fractures of the forearm, wrist, and lower legs, as well as complex fractures around the hip, knee, and ankle joints. She also has significant experience in addressing non-union (fractures that fail to heal), malunion (fractures healing improperly), and osteomyelitis (bone infection).
Ms Bose began her medical career by qualifying from the University of Calcutta in 1990. She furthered her training in the UK, passing the FRCS exam at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She then entered the Welsh trauma and orthopaedics training programme, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in trauma and orthopaedics in 2000.
Her advanced training in limb reconstruction and bone infections took place at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where she worked with the UK’s only dedicated bone infection unit. In addition to her clinical practice, Ms Bose is deeply involved in medical education.
She earned an MSc in medical education from Cardiff University in 2010 and has held key leadership roles, including regional training programme director for core surgery in the West Midlands. Currently, she is the vice chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Trauma and Orthopaedics, where she oversees curriculum development and assessment for orthopaedic training across the UK.
