Mr Dominic McHugh is a leading ophthalmologist based in London, specialising in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery treating conditions such as retinal detachment, advanced diabetic retinopathy causing vitreous haemorrhage and retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes.

Mr McHugh completed his medical training at The Middlesex Hospital Medical School. After this, he underwent specialist training in ophthalmology at St Thomas’ Hospital and then at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He completed a period of research in the applications of semi-conductor diode lasers in ophthalmology and was then awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the University of London.

In 1994, he was appointed to the position of Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital. Here he performs vitreoretinal and cataract surgery and manages patients with diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. He also currently holds an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching position at King's College Hospital in London.

Dominic McHugh has also volunteered for many years in developing countries to treat adults and children who have blinding eye disorders. He is a member of the international charity, 'ORBIS', which uses a DC10 airliner as a fully equipped 'flying eye hospital'. His work at this charity has taken him to Bangladesh, Myanmar and Tanzania. There he performed complex vitreoretinal surgery, cataract procedures and various laser treatments.
