Professor Gideon Morris Hirschfield is a leading consultant gastroenterologist, based in Birmingham. He specialises in the treatment of autoimmune liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis, cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and autoimmune hepatitis. Having graduated from Trinity College Oxford in 1994, Professor Hirschfield went on to study medicine in Cambridge, before gaining experience in Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, and in Toronto, Canada. 

Professor Gideon Morris Hirschfield is heavily involved in research in the gastroenterology and hepatology, with the goal of continuing scientific advances towards new rational therapies for patients with chronic inflammatory liver diseases. He has also published numerous peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, and devotes time to teaching medicine and surgery, biomedical science, and immunology and immunotherapy at the University of Birmingham.
