Dr Harsha Kariyawasam is a leading London consultant in allergy and respiratory medicine. He is considered an authority on diseases of the nose and sinus system (termed medical rhinology). Dr Kariyawasam is one of a small number of specialists to have expertise in allergy, rhinology and respiratory medicine together, allowing him to work across multidisciplinary areas with other leading experts from each specialty.
Dr Kariyawasam was head of Adult Specialist Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital London and University College London Hospital from 2012 until 2017 and remains the Clinical Lead for medical rhinology. He was awarded the prestigious PhD Thesis Prize from the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London for his outstanding research performance on how allergens injure the allergic airways and defining the molecular repair response to such injury.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Kariyawasam is invited to speak as an expert at a national and international level and is also a reviewer for high impact respiratory and allergy journals. He is part of an active research programme in both basic sciences of airway disease and clinical studies looking at new treatments.
