Mr Hasnat Khan is an esteemed consultant cardiothoracic surgeon practising in London and Basildon. Mr Khan has over 35 years of medical experience, training and working in notable international institutes as well as performing numerous cardiac surgeries. He specialises in thoracic aorta and aortic valve surgery, heart failure surgery, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), mitral repair surgery, arterial fibrillation surgery, and minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery.  

Graduating in 1984 from King Edward Medical College, Pakistan with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, Mr Khan undertook training in general medicine and general surgery before being promoted to a medical officer in cardiology at Mayo Hospital Lahore, Pakistan. Mr Khan relocated to Sydney in 1987 after he was selected by the Asutralian Medical Council for a position as a house officer in adult cardiac surgery. A year later he was promoted to a fellow position. He gained valuable experience working in various renowned hospitals in Sydney as both a paediatric and adult cardiac surgeron.  

Mr Khan then moved to the UK and in preparation for the FRCS exam he trained in general surgery and hepatobiliary. In 1994, he began his first register job in adult cardiac surgery at Leeds Royal Infirmary. He also recieved further training in cardiac surgery in various London hospitals and undertook research, supported by the British Heath Foundation at the National Heart and Lung Institute of the Imperial College London.

Mr Khan joined the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in 2008, and is now the lead surgeon of the depetment, having established his practice with a subspecialisation in mitral valve and aortic root surgery. He has sucessfully comissioned two cardiac centres, one on Saudi Arabia and another in Malaysia during his career. Esteemed for his exerience, Mr Khan often teaches trainee cardiac surgeons overseas and has contributed to numerous medical publications.
