After studying at Cambridge University and St George's Hospital Medical School, he went on to complete specialist ophthalmology training in London, including Moorfields Eye Hospital where he was senior resident.
He undertook sub-specialty fellowship training in oculoplastic and lacrimal Surgery at Moorfields and a further fellowship in reconstructive and aesthetic eyelid surgery at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital before becoming a consultant ophthalmologist. Through his NHS post, he is actively involved in the training of young cataract and oculoplastic surgeons.
