Professor John D Somauroo is a leading consultant cardiologist and sports cardiologist practising across various locations in the north-west region, including the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and the Countess of Chester NHS Trust, with his private practice based at the Nuffield Health Chester Grosvenor Hospital. Professor Somauroo has a specialist interest in inherited heart conditions, cardiomyopathy, athletic heart, dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiography, chest pain, valvular heart disease, and coronary artery disease. Professor Samauroo offers specialist sports and exercise cardiology clinics, along with clinics specialised in the investigation and treatment of inherited cardiac conditions and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. 

In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Somauroo has a strong interest in research and has a large database screening athletes across a wide range of sports, including rugby league, football, ice hockey, martial arts, and ultra-endurance running, among many others. Professor Somauroo has been involved in the creation of international cardiac screening programmes, working with the Hong Kong College of Cardiology and the Saudi Football Association. In 2010, he was awarded a professorship by the University of Chester in recognition for his lecture and research programmes.

Professor Samauroo offers clinics for both amateur and professional ahletes and sees patients both from the UK and coming from abroad. He has screened football players from prominent clubs in the UK for potential cardiac disease, including Manchester City FC and Rangers FC. He currently sits on the England Football Association Cardiac Screening Panel and acts as team cardiologist for Liverpool FC and Blackburn Rovers FC.
