Dr Malcolm Finlay is a highly-esteemed and leading consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist based in London. He is a renowned expert in the ablation of atrial fibrillation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) insertion and management, cardiac resynchronisation therapy insertion (bivent ICD), pacemaker insertion and management, and implantable loop recorder insertion. He manages patients with all types of heart rhythm problems.  

In a medical career spanning over two decades, Dr Finlay has performed one of the highest volumes of catheter ablation procedures, and implantations of pacemakers and ICDs in London. He has used his expertise in his field to develop award-winninghighly efficient, and safe cardiac devices which have radically changed cardiology and helped heart patients tremendously.  

Dr Finlay grew up in Cardiff. He graduated from Oxford University in 2001, earning a BM BCh in Medicine, and gained experience training in London's best hospitals. In 2014, he completed his PhD in Cardiac Electrophysiology from University College London, conducting research into how mental stress can harm heart rhythm problems. As a PhD candidate, he held a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship. 

 In 2014, Dr Finlay was appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre and Queen Mary University of London. He currently also practises at OneWelbeck and Whipps Cross Hospital. He performs a full range of electrophysiology (EP) procedures and treatments, assessing and treating the heart’s electrical system or activity.  

Dr Finlay is a Reader at the Queen Mary University of London and an Honorary Senior Lecturer and Senior Clinical Research Fellow at University College London. He also holds an honorary position at the Queen Mary University of London. He is actively involved in academic research and engages with the medical engineering and science departments at these institutions to develop the most advanced technological devices, improving the lives of cardiac disease patients. He has invented several patented technologies, such as STAR™ mapping and Epicardio Simulation™, real-time 4D cardiac simulation, and the world's first for education and training purposes. He has been recognised by the European Heart Rhythm Association’s Innovation committee for his outstanding contributions in the field.  

Dr Finlay holds the position of Chief Medical Officer at Echopoint Medical, a company developing manufactures, and commercialises innovative devices striving to improve minimally invasive procedures and reducing the cost and complications for cardiovascular patients (he has been involved in developing all-optical ultrasound, a new imaging technique suitable for minimally invasive procedures in collaboration with UCL Medical Physics Department). 

He has published numerous papers and spoken at international conferences. He is a faculty member of several national and international academic conferences, such as the Heart Rhythm Congress and the EHRA. 

His patients' well-being is at the heart of Dr Finlay's work. Approaching each case individually, choices are made with his patients to provide optimum, satisfactory, and quick care. Safety is a huge concern of his and he has introduced many concepts from his extra-curricular aviation skills to achieve positive, successful results.
