Mr Matthew Edmunds is a highly qualified and experienced NHS consultant ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon who specialises in conditions such as watery eyes, ptosis, oculoplastics, cataracts, blepharitis as well as blepharoplasty, amongst many others. He currently practises privately in Worcestershire.

Mr Edmunds, who underwent rigorous ophthalmic specialist training throughout a 10-year period in the West Midlands Deanery, undertakes cataract surgery and has a specialist interest in oculoplastics (eyelid), lacrimal (tear system) disease and orbital (eye socket) disease. During his extensive training period, he published a significant number of research abstracts and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and obtained a PhD for research in thyroid eye disease funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Following this, Mr Edmunds gained specialist experience in oculoplastics from a number of United Kingdom centres of excellence, including Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Impressively, he has, to-date, won a number of renowned national and international prizes in ophthalmology, including the Ian Fraser Cup of the Oxford Ophthalmological Congress, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists John Lee Award and the Roper-Hall Prize Medal.

Mr Edmunds is both a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He is also a member of the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society (BOPSS) and the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS). He is currently a senior tutor in the Worcestershire Undergraduate Teaching Academy, mentoring medical students and junior doctors with a particular interest in eye surgery.

As well as cataract surgery, Mr Edmunds' main areas of research interest include eyelid tumours (benign cysts, lumps and skin tags as well as eyelid cancers), eyelid malposition (entropion, ectropion, ptosis), watery eyes and thyroid eye disease.
