Dr Millicent Stone is a leading Consultant Rheumatologist based in London, who specialises in osteoporosis including bone health in female athletes, gout, spondyloarthropathy, and inflammatory back pain.
Dr Stone trained in Ireland and Canada, working as a consultant in Toronto for almost a decade before returning to the UK. She is actively involved in research, having trained as a Clinical Epidemiologist in Canada to understand how diseases affect people with arthritis. Her current area of research is inflammatory back pain and health, scleritis, and the predictors of response to treatments in patients with chronic disease.
Dr Stone took up a unique post at St Thomas’ Hospital in 2014, where she is appointed into the Department of Ophthalmology to work as a consultant rheum ophthalmologist, which is the first appointment of its kind in the UK.
As a keen runner herself, Dr Stone takes a particular interest in the promotion of health for male and female athletes. She is a key opinion leader in the female athlete triad, a condition which affects younger women and leads to fractures amongst other problems such as menstrual disturbances and low energy levels.
