Ms Nishani Amerasinghe

Professional statement

Ms Nishani Amerasinghe is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon in Winchester and Southampton whose area of expertise is in complex cataract surgery. She uses the latest in medical and surgical techniques including lasers, tube and trabeculectomy in glaucoma and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Ms Amerasinghe graduated from the Imperial College School of Medicine at St Mary’s, London in 1998. She trained on the Wessex Ophthalmology Rotation and additionally completed her advanced specialty training in glaucoma between Southampton and Portsmouth Hospitals.

She undertook a further two years of advanced training as a clinical glaucoma research fellow at the world-renowned Singapore National Eye Centre and a fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

Ms Amerasinghe has won academic scholarships and prizes throughout her career, as well as publishing many papers and reviews for journals.
