Mr Paul Parker is a highly skilled consultant orthopaedic surgeon, with a focus on knee, foot, and ankle conditions. He currently practises at The Harborne Hospital.
In addition to his private practice, he holds the prestigious role of the British Army’s most senior consultant trauma and orthopaedic ourgeon. Mr Parker’s expertise lies in treating lower limb sports injuries, with a specialisation in soft tissue reconstruction of the knee and ankle. His extensive experience, gained through participation in over 17 operational military tours, has equipped him with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by military personnel, both from the UK and abroad. This valuable insight informs his NHS practice at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, the largest level 1 trauma centre in the UK.
He earned his medical degree from Queen’s University Belfast in 1985 and went on to train in orthopaedics in prestigious centres across London, Edinburgh, and the US. Appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in 1998, Mr Parker initially worked at South Tees Hospitals before military duties led him to Birmingham in 2012. He now commutes weekly from his home in North Yorkshire to continue his work in both the NHS and private sectors.
Since 2012, Mr Parker has focused his practice on sports medicine, particularly in knee and ankle reconstruction. He treats a wide spectrum of patients, ranging from professional athletes with ligament injuries to recreational sports enthusiasts with conditions such as shin splints.
With over 14 years of experience in lower limb joint replacements, he now focuses on modern joint preservation techniques, helping patients avoid the need for surgery where possible. Mr Parker is particularly experienced in performing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and revision ACL surgeries, and he is one of the few UK surgeons who regularly performs ankle arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction—procedures critical for treating military-related injuries. His interests also extend to common lower limb issues like knee and ankle instability, bunions, and plantar fasciitis, for which he is nationally recognised.
Mr Parker’s approach to patient care is highly individualised, ensuring that each treatmen
