Miss Sharmina Khan is a consultant cataract surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust & Moorfields Private Eye Hospital both world-class centres of excellence for eye care and treatment. Miss Khan has a specialist interest in cataract surgery both laser assisted and standard phacoemulsification and her practice involves using standard monofocal, toric and trifocal intraocular lens implants and correction of aphakia and intraocular lens exchange. She carries out complex cataract surgery and annually completes over 400 cases. She attracts patients from both across the home counties in the UK and abroad.
After qualifying from University College London in 1998, Miss Khan was one of the few postgraduates successful in securing a place on the ophthalmology training program at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2002. She went on to pursue advanced sub-specialty training in cataract and corneal surgery, then was appointed Consultant Cataract Surgeon at Moorfields in 2013. Miss Khan is committed to the training of the next generation of ophthalmic surgeons, having completed an MSc in Medical Education in 2017. She is a member of the Curriculum Committee as a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and members of both the American and European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons.
