Dr Shivan Sivakumar

Professional statement

Dr Shivan Sivakumar is a senior medical oncologist at The London Clinic and Churchill Hospital, in Oxford. His areas of expertise include pancreatic cancer, liver cancer and cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), as well as treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy. He is extremely passionate about finding new solutions for stubborn diseases and has led numerous clinical trials and investigative studies.

Throughout his career, Dr Sivakumar has developed a reputation for both the quality of his care and the speed with which he attends to patients. He tailors his care to the individual needs of his patients, offering home treatments such as chemotherapy. 

He is an honorary consultant in medical oncology at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and a clinical career development fellow in medical oncology at the University of Oxford. Additionally, he is a pancreatic cancer lead for Sichuan University (West China Hospital)-Oxford University Gastrointestinal Cancer Centre, an international partnership created with the purpose of sharing ideas, resources and research findings across two continents, in order to improve cancer treatment in both regions. 

Dr Sivakumar has been educated to the highest standards, he achieved his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Queen Mary University of London and went on to gain membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. In 2014 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge for his groundbreaking work in the field of biochemistry. He also completed post-doctoral studies in immunology and training in early phase clinical trials at the University of Oxford.

Despite his impressive educational background, Dr Sivakumar continues to conduct research, the findings of which have been published in countless peer-reviewed journals. In 2020 he was awarded the "Future of Research" award by the National Cancer Research Institute.
