Mr Toby Hammond is a top consultant general surgeon specialising in colorectal and hernia surgery based in Chelmsford, Essex. He is a recognised expert in hernia surgery, including groin, abdominal wall, incisional and umbilical hernias. He also has considerable expertise and experience in treating haemorrhoids (piles), anal fistulas, anal fissures, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticular disease and bowel cancer. He is well-versed in performing upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), open surgery and laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery.
Mr Hammond qualified from Liverpool University Medical School, and went on to perform his surgical training throughout London and Essex, including training at St Mark's Hospital, a national and international referral centre for intestinal and colorectal disorders. He completed a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at Colchester University Hospital, and a research MD for which he won the Colon & Rectal Disease Research Foundation Prize from the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland (ACPGBI).
A member of several organisations in his field, and co-author of various book chapters, Mr Hammond has been invited to review articles for a number of prestigious journals, including the Lancet and the International Journal of Surgery.
