What happens during eyelid lift surgery?

Typically performed on an outpatient basis using either local or general anaesthetic, eyelid lift surgery typically takes between one to two hours to complete. Eyelid surgery is performed through incisions made either on the inside of the eyelid (transconjunctival) for lower blepharoplasty, or within the natural crease of the upper eyelid for upper blepharoplasty.

I personally favour a natural approach for lower blepharoplasty, repositioning fat through an internal eyelid incision (scarless approach) to deliver a smooth junction between the eyelid and cheek, which is the hallmark of a youthful face.

What is blepharoplasty recovery like?

It is quite common for patients to notice mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling for the first week after blepharoplasty. Measures such as medication, elevating the head, and applying cold compresses can all greatly help mitigate discomfort and control swelling during this initial period of healing. Most patients are able to return to work and resume their normal activities after around seven to 10 days.
