The Modern Facelift - Maximum Results with Minimum Downtime

As we age, our skin loses elasticity, causing wrinkles, sagging and jowls. A facelift is a surgical procedure that can help restore a more youthful appearance by lifting and tightening the skin and the underlying muscles of the face and the neck. In this article, Mr Chris McDonald, renowned consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Aberdeen, explains the modern facelift and its benefits.

Breast augmentation: the procedure, risks and recovery

Breast augmentation describes a number of techniques used to enlarge the breasts. The main part of this treatment is the use of breast implants, although in some cases, it may be possible to use a patient’s own fat in a procedure. This is known as autologous fat transfer or fat grafting. The advantage of implants is that they provide a predictable volume and shape. However, most patients who choose implants will need further surgery several years after the intital procedure. The advantage of fat transfer is that once the fat has ‘taken’ it will be there forever. However, the uptake of fat can be unpredictable and vary from one breast to the other. As a result, more than one session of fat transfer is often required to achieve the desired outcome. It can only be undertaken by patients who have enough spare fat to donate from one part of their body to another.

What is a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck is otherwise known as a abdominoplasty. It is where doctors remove the excess tissue that a patient may have on their tummy. Patients often choose to undergo a tummy tuck because they have lost weight and have some excess tissue around their tummy. Often patients who have been pregnant in the past decide to undergo the procedure because they have excess tissue which overhangs. This will be the main part of the tummy tuck process. Another part of the operation, which is performed for some patients, is to restructure the six pack muscle in the midline, to ensure that the muscle is put back in the right position. This also helps to improve the core strength of the trunk. Additionally, another procedure can be added along with tummy tuck, such as liposuction. This helps to redefine the flex.

Common skin lesions, their symptoms and treatment

There are several different skin lesions. They can be split into two groups: benign skin lesions and malignant skin cancers. Benign skin lesions are quite common. Usually, they are benign moles and are extremely common. Other skin lesions come as people get older such as seborrhoeic keratoses, which are warty, benign lesions that some people get.
