The National Health Service has stated that a total number of 6,650 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the UK and 335 people have died.
Two more people in Scotland have died after testing positive for Covid-19, first minister Nicola Sturgeon has said, taking the death toll total in the country to 16.
The Japanese prime minister and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach have agreed to postpone the Olympic Games until 2021.

The UK has been placed under lockdown. Boris Johnson is ordering police to enforce a strict coronavirus lockdown and has informed the British public that they ‘must stay home’.

The prime minister has said:

- Social events are now banned.

- Shops that are considered to be non-essential must remain closed until further notice.

- People are only allowed to leave their homes for essentials, exercise, and work.

- Public gatherings of more than two people are now banned.

- The police will have the powers to fine people who do not comply with the rules.

People caught breaking the new UK lockdown rules will be fined £30 and might end up in court if they refuse to pay. The amount of the fine is also under review and could rise.
