Pleural effusion is when an abnormal quantity of fluid gathers around the lung. It may be caused by a number of different medical conditions. The most common cause is congestive heart failure and exudative effusions which are caused by blocked blood vessels or lymphatic vessels, inflammation, lung injury, and tumours.
