Until recently, the treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) was painful and not very long-lasting.

Traditional treatments for hyperhidrosis are: Botulinum toxin, microwave gun and surgery.

  • Botulinum toxin: this usually causes pain in the injected area and can even leave scarring.
  • Microwave gun: A source of electromagnetic energy is projected to heat the area to be treated. Postoperatively the patient requires medicines and has to apply ice to their skin.
  • Surgery: This has always been the most extreme treatment for hyperhidrosis and after the operation, it can take the patient 10 to 15 days to return to normal activity. Also, it often causes so-called "compensatory sweating" transferred to other body areas.

There however, have been developments that show more durable results in the fight against excessive sweating, as well as improving the well-being of the patient during and after treatment.

Medical and scientific professionals have devised a novel technique that is both painless and non-invasive for the treatment of hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis. This technique is called Sudor Off.

Sudor off is a simple and comfortable treatment. It widens the spectrum of patients suitable for treatment, improving their day to day life.

What is the new treatment of hyperhidrosis?

This treatment is performed with a machine that uses dielectric radiofrequency and is multifocal. It destroys eccrine glands and damages apocrine secretions. The treatment is non-invasive and can be used on all affected body areas.

Sudor Off is usually performed over several sessions with lasting results from the second session onward. Afterwards, maintenance sessions are scheduled every 7-8 months.

An electromagnetic field causes water molecules located in the tissue to rotate. This creates a friction that produces heat and selectively deactivates the sweat glands.

The process is carried out with either unipolar and coaxipolar technology, which enables control of the depth of the heat and the selective deactivation of  of the sweat glands. The unipolar technology projects heat in the hypodermis to a depth of up to 20mm, and the coaxipolar, a heat in the dermis up to 6mm deep.

A complete treatment of the Sudor Off technique, consisting of 6-8 sessions of dielectric radiofrequency, is around 600 euros. Although it seems a high price, the existing therapies usually have costs higher than this.

Who should not be treated with Sudor Off?

This technique is not suitable for patients with implanted electronic devices. For example, those who have insulin pumps, pacemakers and certain metal plates should not receive this treatment for excessive sweating. Also, the patient should be advised that if the doctor does not have much experience, this treatment can cause some pain during its application.

What about patients with osmidrosis (bad body odour)?

Patients with bad body odour or osmidrosis in areas such as the armpits and palms of the hand can also be treated with this technique. Experts in aesthetic medicine believe that all those treated with Sudor Off see an obvious improvement in a very short time.
