Moorfields Private Eye hospital is the exclusive branch of the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, which dates back over 200 years.

Founded in London in 1805 by John Cunningham Saunders, Moorfields Eye Hospital was the first hospital in the world dedicated to the treatment of eye conditions. The hospital received a royal charter under Queen Victoria in 1837.

Today, the Hospital remains the leading centre for eye treatment in the United Kingdom and provides world-class training to ophthalmologists from across the globe. Partnering with the University College London Institute of Ophthalmology, Moorfields Hospital also boasts one of the world’s leading ophthalmic research programmes. As a member of University College London Partners, Moorfields is an academic health science centre, designed to help ensure the benefits of scientific breakthroughs are felt by the patient.

Moorfields Eye Hospital has also recently established a branch in Dubai, as well as opening one of the biggest children’s eye centres in the world (The Richard Desmond Children’s Eye Centre) opposite the main branch of the hospital.

The private branch of the hospital, Moorfields Private Eye Hospital was opened in 2004 and treats a wide range of eye problems, dealing with rare conditions that cannot be treated elsewhere in the UK, as well as more common eye diseases.

Travelling to Moorfields Private eye Hospital

Moorfields Private operates from three locations in central London. All of them are well served by the London Underground from one of the capital’s main overground stations for those travelling from elsewhere.

Just around the corner from each other, the private outpatient centre and the City Road building are a stone’s throw away from Old Street London Underground station on the Northern Line.

Moorfields Private Eye Hospital Parking

Situated in central London, parking at the hospital can be difficult and traffic can often be bad. For this reason, Moorfields recommends on its own website that visitors take public transport. That said, there are limited metered parking spaces available in nearby streets and NCP parking facilities relatively close by.

There are also some designated disabled bays available for blue badge holders.

Moorfields Eye Hospital has an overall ‘Good’ rating in CQC quality inspections and is rated ‘Outstanding’ for caring, with positive feedback from patients about the way they were treated by staff.

The Hospital’s NHS services consistently scores well on the NHS Choices Friends and Family test (FFT) – a service established to record the satisfaction of the patients.
