Septorhinoplasty Went in to have better breathing and more symmetry, by moving the septum to the middle. The result after the first surgery was bad. The septum did not stay where it had been placed and moved. Causing my right nostril to become more narrow, resulting is significantly reduced capacity. Breathing became infinitely worse Revision surgery was needed. Situation took another down turn. The right nostril is now almost 95% blocked permanently! the surgery intended on creating more space to breathe however resulted in far less space. This is resulting in frequent headaches, giving up certain activities. I am left with a bigger problem than I walked in with. Struggling to come to terms with this. How could a revision surgery result in a worse outcome? The doctor Jonathan Joseph couldn’t provide any meaningful explanation besides that it is an unfortunate outcome. He further tried to state that I had this problem of narrowness on the right side prior to meeting him however the medical notes and history proves otherwise. Quality of life has been impacted severely. I can’t recover between sets in the gym like I used to, I get terrible headaches and feel nauseous and frustrated, breathing pattern very messed up, lots of resistance in breathing, whistling sounds and deformities. Took my money, left me a lot worse off. Also, tried to state that the problem was stemming from my depression, attempting to deflect all responsibility. On other sites it doesn’t provide me an option to leave a review, which begs the question of how many other’s may have been badly affected. A third surgery is unfortunately needed to try and undo what Mr Joseph had done.

I am always very upset when a patient receives any form of treatment from me and the outcome is not as expected. I would never have suggested surgery unless I felt that I could achieve what the patient is hoping for. As the other reviews show, the vast majority of my patients are very satisfied with my care. It is important to note that when recommending an operation to a patient, I will make sure that they are fully informed of the details of the surgery, particularly focussing on the intended aims but also the risks. I want the final decision on whether to operate to be made jointly by the patient and myself with an agreed plan. In the case of septorhinoplasty I always stress that a good outcome is not guaranteed from both a functional and cosmetic point of view. My personal data show that 5-10% of my patients are not fully satisfied and some will require further surgery. This is similar to many other highly regarded experts in the field of rhinology and facial plastic surgery. In those patients of mine who have required a repeat operation, almost all of them are satisfied but unfortunately this is still not guaranteed. In the type of situation above, I will always discuss the case in a confidential manner with other colleagues who have specialist training and experience in this area. Sometimes they will take over the care of the patient if we all feel it is the best way forward. After years of suffering from tonsil stones, I saw Dr. Jonathan Joseph who suggested an adenotonsillectomy. I am almost fully recovered and haven't felt better in years - a clear head and certainty that I will never have a tonsil stone again!

A kind and caring professional, Mr Joseph discussed all available options and outlined a clear care plan. Hospital staff and after care have been excellent. From initial appointment to surgery was around 6 weeks.

3 weeks post op and I definitely feel like I've made the right decision. Dr. Joseph made me feel at ease from the first consultation right through to the last one I had. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for such positive feedback. Multiple consultations are often required to achieve the best result. This allows me truly understand the nature of the problem and then design the best treatment plan.

This is a great example of a patient having thought about having surgery for a while and then making the decision to proceed. My job is to provide realistic expectations of what surgery can achieve. Crucially I must also assess the patient to ensure they understand this and are aware of how their can change following the surgery. We build the best possible doctor - patient relationship and this ensures the most productive outcomes.
