Question 1

What does a cardiologist do?

Accepted Answer

A cardiologist is a specialist doctor who studies, diagnoses, and treats diseases of the heart and circulatory system. They assess symptoms, request diagnostic tests, and recommend non-surgical medical treatments to improve cardiovascular health and help reduce associated risks.

Question 2

Why are you referred to a cardiologist?

Accepted Answer

You may be referred to a cardiologist when there are symptoms or suspicion of heart disease, such as chest pain, palpitations, or blood pressure changes to confirm a diagnosis and decide on the most appropriate treatment plan.

Question 3

When should you see a cardiologist?

Accepted Answer

It is advisable to seek medical advice if you experience chest pain or pressure, a burning sensation, palpitations, shortness of breath, or other symptoms linked to heart problems. Women may also notice pain in the neck, jaw, throat, abdomen or back. Cardiovascular disease is common and is estimated to affect around 1 in 13 people worldwide, according to the World Health Organization and the American Heart Association (World Health Organization, 2025; American Heart Association, 2025). If symptoms recur, last several days, or affect daily life, a medical assessment can help clarify what is happening and guide the next steps safely.

Question 4

Why choose a cardiologist?

Accepted Answer

A cardiologist is specially trained to assess heart health, identify cardiovascular conditions and guide treatment using a safe, personalised and evidence-based approach.
