Mr Bassem Mettias is a consultant ENT/otorhinolaryngology surgeon based in Essex. He specialises in thyroid & parathyroid surgery, head & neck cancer, sinus diseases, ear diseases, and voice & swallowing disorders.
Mr Mettias qualified from Cairo University in 2000 and completed an ENT residency programme at Cairo University Hospital. Upon coming to the UK, he undertook speciality training in Glasgow and the East Midlands. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2007 and completed the ORL-HNS fellowship in 2020. He has partaken in further training in thyroid and head & neck cancer with the National Training Interface Group of Surgical Oncology fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He holds a master’s degree in Meniere’s disease and was awarded a PhD for his research on laryngotracheal stenosis.
Mr Mettias is a member of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists, the British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery, and the EN-UK Society. He is passionate about medical education and currently serves as an honorary lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University. He has been a lecturer in ENT at Fayoum University in Egypt and a tutor in various national academic ENT courses. He has authored several peer-reviewed papers and presented at national and international conferences. He spent three years as a junior lead in East Midlands dissection courses for trainees and high-speciality registrars.
