Mr Cha Rajakaruna is a highly revered consultant cardiac surgeon who specialises in minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, coronary bypass surgery, atrial fibrillation, atrial fibrillation ablation, TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation), as well as minimally invasive aortic valve repair. He is currently practising at the Spire Bristol Hospital.
Mr Rajakaruna, who sucessfully obtained his first medical qualification (MB ChB) from the University of Leicester in 1998, also specialises in performing aortic aneurysm surgery, stenting, and endovascular surgery, and notably performs between 150 and 180 heart operations each and every year. To-date, he has impressively performed over 1,000 open heart surgical procedures.
Mr Rajakaruna, whose main specialist interests are aortic aneurysm repairs and performing heart surgery on young patients who have been born with an abnormal aortic valve, has published extensively within various different peer-reviewed medical journals and publications. He is an active and well-respected researcher in heart valve-related research, and is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Bristol, and is a member of the fundraising for the heart appeal campaign at the Above and Beyond charity.
