Professional statement
Dr Daniel Ford is a highly experienced clinical oncologist specialising in the treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancers. His private practice is as part of the Birmingham Prostate Specialists at The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare, and practises within the NHS and also runs a specialist uro-oncology clinic at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, where he manages a busy and varied caseload. Dr Ford provides comprehensive care across all stages of urological cancer, combining advanced treatment techniques with a patient-centred approach tailored to individual needs.
Dr Ford has extensive expertise in the delivery and assessment of a full range of oncological treatments for urological cancers. These include hormonal therapies, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and a variety of advanced radiotherapy techniques such as conventional radiotherapy, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), MR-Linac–guided radiotherapy and prostate brachytherapy. He also has significant experience in treating both localised and metastatic disease, ensuring patients have access to the most appropriate and up-to-date treatment options.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Ford is deeply committed to cancer research and service development. He is Deputy Clinical Cancer Lead for the West Midlands NIHR Clinical Research Network, where he plays a key role in supporting and promoting high-quality research activity across the region. In this capacity, he works closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve access to clinical trials and to advance innovation in cancer care.
Dr Ford is the local lead for the PACE trial, which is investigating profound hypofractionation techniques for the treatment of localised prostate cancer. He is also actively involved in the development and application of SABR, a highly precise form of radiotherapy originally established for brain and lung cancers, and now increasingly used in conditions such as metastatic prostate cancer. His work in this area reflects his strong interest in precision radiotherapy and improving outcomes while minimising treatment burden for patients.
Previously, Dr Ford served as clinical service lead for oncology at University Hospitals Birmingham, a large regional referral centre. In this senior leadership role, he led a team of more than 25 oncology consultants and was instrumental in the development and expansion of both radiotherapy and oncology services. He also provided strategic leadership and clinical governance support, helping to shape service delivery across the department. In addition to his NHS work, Dr Ford acts as specialist advisor in uro-oncology at GenesisCare.
Working collaboratively with a specialist group of uro-oncology consultants, he has contributed to the introduction of several innovative treatment pathways, including five-day radiotherapy for prostate cancer, five-fraction SABR for prostate cancer, re-irradiation for recurrent prostate cancer and renal SABR.
Known for his clear communication style and compassionate approach, Dr Ford is committed to ensuring that patients are fully informed and supported throughout their treatment journey. His combined expertise in advanced radiotherapy, research leadership and service development places him at the forefront of modern uro-oncology care.
