Professional statement
Dr Darren Klass is an esteemed interventional radiologist who is recognised for his expertise in advanced imaging and minimally invasive procedures, particularly in the treatment of complex vascular conditions.
Dr Klass earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria in South Africa before completing his radiology training at the Norwich Radiology Academy in the United Kingdom. He further honed his expertise with a fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where he now practices. As the IR lead for the complex thoracic aortic stent graft programme, Dr Klass plays a pivotal role in managing challenging aortic conditions.
He is also the head of MRI for Vancouver Acute, where he spearheaded the development of the vascular MRI service at Vancouver General Hospital. His work in this area has been instrumental in advancing imaging capabilities for both arterial and venous conditions. Dr Klass has a particular interest in aortic disease, with a focus on aortic dissection and its invasive treatment. He has pioneered the use of dynamic Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) to map blood flow in the aorta before and after interventions.
Additionally, he has optimised MR angiography protocols, integrating time-resolved and steady-state imaging to enhance diagnostic precision and guide therapeutic decisions. His contributions to vascular imaging and intervention have significantly improved patient outcomes in complex cases.
