Professor Georg Auzinger is a highly regarded consultant and reader in intensive care medicine at King's College London and serves as the department chair for critical care at Cleveland Clinic London.
With over 21 years of experience as a consultant in the NHS, he has held multiple clinical leadership roles throughout his career. From 2007 to 2015, Professor Auzinger led the Liver ICU at King’s College Hospital, a globally renowned institution for clinical and academic excellence. Following this, he became the clinical director for Critical Care at King’s, a role he held until 2019 when he transitioned to Cleveland Clinic London.
In 2021, he was appointed professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Professor Auzinger's academic pursuits span a diverse range of applied clinical research topics, particularly in liver failure, transplantation, and extracorporeal life support (ECMO). He holds a special interest in extracorporeal cardio-respiratory support and liver failure. In 2012, he established the King’s ECMO service, which he continues to co-direct. Under his guidance, the service earned ELSO Platinum Centre of Excellence status in 2019. The King’s ECMO service has been at the forefront of innovation, particularly in the use of ECMO for Acute Liver Failure and as a bridge to liver transplantation.
