Dr Gerald Coakley is a leading consultant rheumatologist based in London. He treats a wide variety of rheumatic conditions, however, he has expertise in chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain and gout. He also devotes time to doing medicolegal reports for people who have health complaints after personal injury.
He has been very prominent in the treatment of fatigue, and has run a weekly fatigue clinic at Keats House, St Thomas Street since 2007. Here Dr Coakley provides support for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) patients.
Dr Coakley graduated in 1989 from the Royal London Hospital Medical School and went on from his training to be awarded with an Arthritis Research Campaign Fellowship. During this Fellowship he made discoveries relating to the immunology and genetics of rheumatoid arthritis, leading to several publications in international journals and the award of a PhD by the University of London in 2000.
