Mr Giles Bond-Smith is a highly experienced consultant general surgeon at Nuffield Health Oxford, The Manor Hospital, specialising in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery—including liver, pancreatic, and biliary conditions—as well as complex hernia surgery.
Appointed as a consultant surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2016, Mr Bond-Smith graduated from University College Hospital, London, before completing extensive surgical training across several leading London centres. His training included posts at University College Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and The Royal London Hospital. He further developed his expertise in laparoscopic HPB surgery through specialist experience at the Mayo Clinic in the United States.
Since joining Oxford, Mr Bond-Smith has established and now leads the Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, he manages a wide range of hernia conditions, frequently using minimally invasive (keyhole) surgical techniques where appropriate.
As a consultant emergency surgeon, Mr Bond-Smith regularly evaluates and treats acute abdominal conditions, including appendicitis, abscesses, and complicated hernias. His specialist interest in HPB surgery also enables him to assess and manage gallbladder disorders, such as gallstones and cholecystitis, as well as related liver and pancreatic conditions, providing patients with comprehensive treatment plans tailored to their needs.
