Professional statement
Dr Jonathan Garabette is an expert Consultant Psychiatrist in London who is a registered specialist in the fields of both general adult psychiatry and medical psychotherapy. Dr Garabette's approach focuses on providing individualised, bespoke care, understanding the whole person rather than just the diagnosis, looking at multiple avenues to improve long term emotional and mental health and wellbeing. These may include combinations of lifestyle modification, psychotherapy and medication.
He treats conditions such as depression, bipolar affective disorder, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, OCD, body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders, psychosis, schizophrenia, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and personality disorders among others. He also specialises in providing second opinions and treatment of complex and 'treatment resistant' conditions.
As a dual specialist, Dr Garabette provides expert general adult psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment, but also highly specialist individualised psychotherapeutic assessment, recommendations and therapy. Dr Garabette also has extensive experience providing medicolegal reports and acting as an expert witness to the courts.
Dr Garabette also has an interest in dietary, nutritional and lifestyle approaches to improving mental health including ways of modifying the body's stress response (the autonomic nervous system) and achieving and sustaining high level performance.
Dr Garabette trained as a medical doctor at Guy’s King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School, University of London. He obtained a first-class degree in Neuroscience before graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 2004.
He then undertook specialist psychiatry training at the prestigious South London and Maudsley training scheme, and other renowned schemes in Oxford, South West London and at St George’s.
Dr Garabette qualified as a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry in 2012 and then undertook a further period of specialist training, qualifying as a Consultant Medical Psychotherapist in 2015.
