Mr Lee Breakwell is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in adult and paediatric spinal surgery and practises privately in Sheffield. He trained in Sheffield and Birmingham before completing prestigious spinal fellowships in St Louis, San Diego and Nottingham, developing expertise in complex spinal deformity and reconstruction.
Mr Breakwell studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, qualifying in 1994. He undertook his orthopaedic training in the West Midlands at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, where he developed his specialist interest in spinal surgery. He went on to complete three highly regarded spinal fellowships: in St Louis and San Diego (USA), focusing on deformity and reconstruction, and the British Orthopaedic Association National Spinal Fellowship in Nottingham.
He now has a full-time spinal practice within the NHS and leads several national and international research projects at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Alongside his clinical work, Mr Breakwell holds key leadership roles: he represents spinal surgeons on the Council of the British Orthopaedic Association and serves as Treasurer of the British Scoliosis Society.
Mr Breakwell is highly experienced in all forms of spinal surgery, including the management of degenerative conditions, scoliosis, tumours, trauma, and spinal infections. He is also passionate about education and regularly teaches on international training programmes, helping to share knowledge and advance spinal care worldwide.
