Mr Marius Calciu
MBBS MD FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Orth)
GMC: 7046897Professional statement
Mr Marius Calciu is a leading consultant knee surgeon based in Cardiff who specialises in knee replacements, soft tissue ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair, alongside osteotomy, sports injuries and knee arthroscopy. He privately practises at Spire Cardiff Hospital, while his NHS base is the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
Mr Calciu is highly experienced and qualified, and to date has performed over 820 partial and total knee replacements, more than 400 knee arthroscopic procedures (meniscectomy, meniscus repair and ACL reconstruction) and 76 osteotomies around the knee (high tibial osteotomy, distal femoral osteotomy, tibial tubercle transfer).
Furthermore, he's recently performed new and more challenging procedures, for example meniscus root repairs and derotational osteotomies. His revision rate as per National Joint Registry feedback confirms a five-year revision rate of 0.66 per cent for partial and total knee replacement.
Mr Calciu's practice involves the assessment and management of all aspects of knee surgery, with a high volume practice in partial and total replacement. He strongly believes in a personalised treatment of the knee, based on patient's personal characteristics, activity levels and goals.
Mr Calciu's research has been published in various peer reviewed journals. He's a member of several professional organisations including the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) and the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society (ICRS). He's also a member of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT).
