Mr Mohamed Rabie is a consultant colorectal and general surgeon in Southampton, who specialises in hernias, haemorrhoids (piles), bowel cancer, colonoscopy, gallbladder surgery, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He privately practises at Spire Southampton Hospital, while his NHS bases are University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Mr Rabie's clinical work includes the management of colorectal cancer and benign bowel conditions, as well as general surgical procedures such as hernia repair and gallbladder surgery. He also undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy as part of comprehensive bowel assessment and treatment.
Mr Rabie completed two Royal College of Surgeons–accredited fellowships in advanced minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery: the RCSEng MiMICC fellowship at St Mark’s Hospital in London and the RCSEng Robotic Fellowship in Portsmouth. He holds a PhD in colorectal surgery, alongside an MSc in Surgery, and is a graduate of the King’s College Leadership and Management Fellowship and the Chief Resident Programme. He qualified in medicine at Ain Shams University in 2004.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Rabie is the department lead for clinical effectiveness at University Hospital Southampton, where he supports the development of guidelines and service innovation across general surgery. He is the regional representative for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and a member of the Education and Training Committee of the Association of Coloproctologists of Great Britain and Ireland. He also served as President of The Dukes’ Club in 2022.
Mr Rabie is an active academic and surgical educator. He holds an associate professorship in surgery at Ain Shams University and has previously worked as a lecturer and assistant lecturer in general surgery. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to a book chapter and presented his work internationally. His contributions to training and education were recognised with the ACPGBI Trainee Coloproctologist of the Year award in 2023.
