Mr Oliver Bowes

Mr Oliver Bowes is a leading consultant ophthalmic surgeon in Essex and East London specialising in complex cataract and refractive surgery using advanced premium toric, multifocal and extended depth of focus intraocular lenses. He has extensive experience in refractive cataract surgery aiming to minimise a patient’s reliance on glasses following treatment. In clinic, each patient is assessed individually to determine what type of premium lens will best address their visual needs with the vast majority of patients achieving excellent outcomes as highlighted in regular patient reviews and other professional endorsements.

Oliver practises privately at Nuffield Holly Private Hospital, Spire Hartswood Hospital and Spire London East Hospital. He is also an Honorary Consultant at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust where he is the past lead clinician for cataract surgery and a former surgical trainer for the London deanery.

Oliver also specialises in keratoconus, corneal transplantation, corneal collagen crosslinking, management of external eye disease, dry eye disease, blepharitis, chalazion, minor lid surgery and YAG laser procedures following cataract surgery.

Oliver completed his medical degree at University College London in 2009 with distinction in medical sciences and achieved several academic awards, including a commendation for the Duke-Elder Prize from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. His specialist training includes two dedicated corneal and refractive surgical fellowships at Cambridge University Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. His commitment to research and education is ongoing, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and regular invitations to lecture in the UK. He has organised and delivered a number of national and international surgical training courses.

He holds a fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and is recognised as a specialist by the General Medical Council. His professional memberships include the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). His leadership roles have included chairing the Ophthalmologists in Training group and serving on the College Council at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
