Mr Paul Sutton

Mr Paul Sutton is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon in Manchester and Cheshire, practising at the Wilmslow Hospital and The Christie Private Care, where he is part of the Advanced Pelvic Malignancy, Peritoneal Tumour Service and Neuroendocrine multidisciplinary teams. He specialises in abdominal pain, colonoscopy and gastroscopy, hernia, haemorrhoids, colorectal and appendixcancers.

Mr Sutton graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2006 and completed his postgraduate training in Nottingham, Manchester, and Liverpool, during which he was awarded a clinical research training fellowship by Cancer Research UK. He completed a PhD in methods of improving treatment responses to chemotherapy and radiotherapy for colorectal cancer in 2015, and for which he was recognised with the John of Arderne medal from the Royal Society of Medicine and the Arris & Gale medal from the Royal College of Surgeons. Upon completing his surgical training, he undertook both the European Society of Peritoneal Surface Oncology fellowship and the European Board Surgical Qualification in Surgical Oncology. Mr Sutton has additionally done a year of training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, where he gained experience in managing advanced pelvic malignancy.

Mr Sutton is a JAG-accredited endoscopist and conducts research on predicting and modifying response to adjuvant therapy in colorectal cancer, and improving outcomes for patients with locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer. His research has been published in over 80 peer-reviewed papers and he is currently an editor for the BJS. Furthermore, Mr Sutton is an honorary senior lecturer in the Division of Cancer Sciences at The University of Manchester.
