Dr Prasad Nagakumar is a highly regarded consultant respiratory paediatrician based in Edgbaston, where he practises at Midland Health. He has particular expertise in the management of severe asthma, wheezing disorders, allergies, dysfunctional breathing and sleep-related respiratory conditions. With a patient-centred approach, he provides expert care for children with a wide range of respiratory problems, including complex and COVID-related conditions.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Nagakumar is a clinical academic with a strong focus on advancing the understanding of childhood respiratory disease. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham’s Institute of Inflammation and Ageing, where he is actively involved in research and supervises postgraduate students. His research interests include phenotyping childhood asthma, preschool wheeze and chronic suppurative lung disease, and his work has been widely published in leading medical journals.
Dr Nagakumar completed his specialist paediatric respiratory training at prestigious centres including the Royal Brompton Hospital, Bristol Children’s Hospital and The Children’s Hospital for Wales. He also holds an MD (Res) from Imperial College London, awarded for his research into severe asthma. In recognition of his expertise, he is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and contributes to the wider medical community through his involvement in professional and academic activities.
