Dr Raffi Kaprielian
Professional background
Dr Raffi Kaprielian is an esteemed consultant interventional cardiologist and the clinical lead for cardiology at West Middlesex. His clinical interests include ischaemic heart disease, and he regularly performs cardiac catheterisation and coronary angioplasty/stenting procedures at Hammersmith Hospital.
He has played a key role in establishing direct (immediate) angioplasty for patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction from the Hounslow and Twickenham areas, and has introduced a day-case transfer pathway for patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndromes to reduce inpatient waiting times at West Middlesex. Dr Kaprielian also has a strong interest in left ventricular dysfunction and heart failure. Since his appointment in 2003, he has developed a comprehensive heart failure service at West Middlesex, which includes the implantation of multi-site pacemakers and defibrillators for selected patients.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Kaprielian is actively involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors and cardiology trainees. He regularly contributes to departmental training programmes and participates in regional educational initiatives aimed at improving standards of cardiac care. Dr Kaprielian is also engaged in ongoing quality-improvement projects, with a focus on optimising patient pathways and enhancing the delivery of evidence-based cardiovascular treatments within the local community.
