Professor Raj Bhattacharya

Professor Raj Bhattacharya is a distinguished consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based in London who specialises in knee surgery. His areas of expertise include sports knee injuries, knee ligament reconstructions, total and partial knee replacement, robotic-assisted knee surgery, and trauma knee care.

Professor Bhattacharya consults privately at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre. With over 20 years’ experience, his NHS base is Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where he is also the divisional director of surgery.

Notably, Professor Bhattacharya serves as an Advisor to the UK Parliament and Health Ombudsman and is the clinical director at the North West London Major Trauma Centre. He is also the former president of the orthopaedic section of the Roya Society of Medicine.

Professor Bhattacharya qualified from the University of Calcutta in 1996. He holds esteemed fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons, and also completed an MSc at the University of Teesside and an MBA with distinction at Imperial College Business School.

Furthermore, Professor Bhattacharya is closely involved in clinical research, and has over 100 publications in prestigious scientific journals like the Nature group of publications as well as JAMA.

He is additionally a professor of surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and part of the UK faculty for the American College of Surgeons’ Acute Care Emergency Surgery and Trauma Programme.
