Mr Richard Hampton is a highly experienced consultant orthopaedic surgeon with specialised expertise in hip and knee surgery, osteoarthritis, fractures, tendinopathy and knee arthritis. He practises at New Victoria Hospital in London.
Mr Hampton completed his medical education at St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, graduating with his MB BS in 1989. He then pursued his basic surgical training on the Northwick Park Hospital surgical rotation, where he laid the groundwork for his future in orthopaedic surgery.
His higher surgical training took place on the St Mary’s Hospital Orthopaedic Rotation, giving him invaluable experience across several prestigious institutions, including St Mary’s, Wexham Park, Royal Berkshire, Northwick Park, Chelsea and Westminster, and Kingston Hospitals. This extensive training equipped him with a broad and deep understanding of orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the areas of hip and knee joint preservation and replacement.
Since his appointment as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Kingston Hospital Trust in 2002, Mr Hampton has played a pivotal role in delivering high-quality orthopaedic care. He has been a key figure at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre in Epsom since its inception in 2004, where he continues to perform a high volume of hip and knee replacement surgeries, including complex primary and revision procedures.
Mr Hampton's clinical interests extend to the management of various hip and knee conditions, such as arthritis, tendinopathies, bursitis, cartilage tears, loose bodies, impingement, and painful hip replacements. He is also actively involved in the trauma management at Kingston Hospital, where he treats isolated upper and lower limb injuries. His regular day-case operating lists predominantly involve knee arthroscopy and metalwork removal, demonstrating his versatile surgical skills.
Mr Hampton holds the FRCS (Tr&Orth) and FRCS (Eng) qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons, further underscoring his commitment to excellence in orthopaedic surgery.
