Professor David Cranston is an honorary consultant urological surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. From his private clinic at Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital, Professor Cranston specialises in general urology and benign prostate conditions, with a special interest in complex renal cancer and urological complications of renal transplantation. He also works with the NHS at Churchill Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital, where he sees private patients. 

Professor Cranston trained in Bristol, before coming to Oxford to research renal transplantation, and was awarded his DPhil in 1986. He was appointed consultant urological and transplant surgeon in 1991 and went on to set up a research program with the director of the cancer research unit in Oxford. Many students under his supervision have gone on to win international awards for their work. Professor Cranston continues to work as an associate professor of surgery at Oxford and is a governing body fellow of Green Templeton College Oxford. 

Since 2002, he has been the clinical director of the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound unit. HIFU is a new non-invasive technique of treating solid tumours and Oxford has established itself as one of the leading international academic centres for clinical HIFU research. Along with his post as consultant urological surgeon and dedicating time to teaching and research, Professor Cranston is the author of 18 chapters and over 100 peer reviewed publications
