The secret boob job, so called because it leaves barely any physical signs of having gone under the knife, is a new breast augmentation technique that is rising in popularity. Often the main concern that women have while making the decision of whether or not to have cosmetic surgery, is the fear of unsightly scarring following the procedure. A new technique carried out by Mr Mo Akhavani, uses the Keller Funnel, a piece of equipment that allows surgeons to insert implants under the skin using an incision usually no larger than three centimetres.

How is short scar breast augmentation carried out?

During the initial consultation with the plastic surgeon, you will agree on the best implants for you, including size and positioning. Following either sedation or general anaesthetic, the surgeon will make a short, 3cm incision on the underside of the breast area. A tool known as the ‘Keller Funnel’ is used, which allows a silicone gel implant to be placed into the breast without the need for touching, and with more control by the surgeon. The implant will be moved into the optimal position, before the incisions are closed. The surgical team will provide post-operative follow-up care, ensuring you are happy with the final results, and that the incision has healed well.

What are the benefits of this technique?

With the short scar breast augmentation technique, the scar following the procedure is very minimal, and often fades away to nothing within a few months.

There is also chance that the procedure reduces the risk of infection, due to the use of a short incision. Other complications associated with the traditional breast augmentation technique, such as biofilm formation, which leads to capsular contracture and implant hardening, are also reduced with this technique.
