Following childbirth, the vagina does not return to its initial position and therefore stimulation of the vaginal walls during sexual intercourse decreases. Vaginal rejuvenation is a virtually painless non-surgical procedure that can help women solve numerous problems with their private area, which allows them to enjoy their intimate life.

The procedure is becoming very popular with celebrities such as Jada Pinka Smith, who recently shared her experience with the vaginal corrective treatment on her Facebook talk show.

Wonder what happens to your vagina post-childbirth and how the procedure can help? Expert gynaecologist Dr Fakher Gendy explains the benefits of vaginal rejuvenation and how long the results will last.

What happens to the vagina after childbirth?

After childbirth, especially when labour occurs later in life, the vagina does not return to its original position and remains wider. The stimulation of the vaginal walls during sex decreases. This is particularly true in the following cases:

A high number of childbirths Perineal wounds and tears The use of forceps or vacuum extractors Giving birth to large babies Multiple pregnancies Big weight fluctuations of the body Inherited connective tissue abnormalities If a woman is over the age of 35.

Does the vagina change after a Caesarean section?

Even a planned C-section is not absolute protection. This is because during pregnancy:

The woman’s hormones reduce the muscle tone The pregnant uterus presses on the vagina Ligaments and muscles cause vaginal and uterine prolapse of different severity

What are the symptoms of vaginal problems after labour?

After childbirth, you may feel that both you and your partner’s satisfaction with sexual intercourse has changed. You may take a bath or swim in a pool and find that water stays in your vagina. There may also be a history of vaginal or pelvic prolapse in your family.

How can vaginal rejuvenation help after childbirth?

The non-surgical procedure helps to reduce the circumference and restore previous elasticity of the vagina as it acts directly on the walls of the vagina.

It tightens and remodels the walls and leads to the formation of new young cells and glands. Collagen biosynthesis is activated and the water levels of the cells are restored to appropriate levels. It helps regain appropriate elasticity and diameter of the vagina and restores physiological pH levels and bacterial flora.
